Tanya Tassi works as the Director of Policy and Advocacy for an International LGBTQ+ nonprofit, where she specializes in mobilization, advocacy, and education within the LGBTQ+ community. 

She is the founder of the Los Angeles LGBT Center's Senior Mobilization Squad; a group consisting of older adults living in Los Angeles County who are dedicated to protecting and expanding the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.

Tanya served two terms as a Commissioner for the Los Angeles County Commission on Aging where she focused on bringing awareness to the unique needs of LGBTQ+ older adults.

She is a volunteer educator for the National Resource Center on LGBT Aging, an Advisory Committee Member for the first ever survey of LGBTQ+ older adults in California, and is involved in disaster preparedness as part of her local Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

Tanya holds the following certifications:

  • Fundamentals of Gerontology
  • End of Life Doula: IAP College

Tanya received her degree in Administration of Justice with an emphasis on Sociology from Los Angeles Harbor College, graduating summa cum laude.

Certifications include a Human Rights Consultant certification from the US Institute of Diplomacy and Human Rights and a Gerontology certification from the University of Southern California's Leonard Davis School of Gerontology. Tanya is also a certified End of Life Doula, Reiki Level One Practicioner, and Mindfullness Practicioner.

Tanya is a recipient of the Los Angeles County LINK Award for her outstanding service to the older adult community. She is a Broadwick Scholarship awardee, representing women over 40 who re-entered post-secondary education and exceled academically.
